A shirt that is both basic and overwhelmingly present

A shirt that retains its core no matter how many times it is washed. This project began with the desire to create just such a shirt.

We produced two types: Oxford and poplin. Precisely because it is the most basic and ubiquitous of shirts, we aimed to create an overwhelming quality that would surprise everyone.

A return to our origins in pursuit of the ultimate

We turned our attention to the vintage shuttle looms that have been in use since our founding. While these machines can weave high-density fabrics with excellent texture, they pose challenges such as narrow fabric width and a high rate of defects.

— Is it possible to create a fabric with stable physical properties while retaining the benefits of a shuttle loom? —

We focused on the weaving speed of the shuttle loom. Due to its structure, a shuttle loom weaves fabric very slowly. We started by reducing the speed of our modern looms to their absolute limit and repeatedly weaving test samples.

As we began to see positive results, we discovered that by not only adjusting the speed but also loosening the tension of the warp threads—weaving at about one-fifth the normal speed—we could achieve quality comparable to fabric woven on a shuttle loom.

After further adjustments, including fabric finishing, we completed a material that combines the unique texture of vintage shuttle looms with the stability of modern innovative looms. We believe this is the highest quality Shuttle Notes can achieve today, fitting for our flagship product.
