About "Banshu-ori" (Definition, Certification, and Logo Usage)

"Banshu-ori" is a yarn-dyed fabric cultivated in a weaving region centered around the Kita-Harima area of Hyogo Prefecture, and it is currently registered as a regional brand. Guidelines for certification, quality standards, and regulations for the use of logos (marks) and labels have been established, and products that meet certain criteria are certified as "Banshu-ori."


Definition of "Banshu-ori"

Banshu-ori is fabric produced through dyeing, weaving, and finishing processes under the techniques and division of labor cultivated in the Kita-Harima region of Hyogo Prefecture (centering on Nishiwaki City and the Taka Town area). Among these, products that meet designated conditions and reach certain quality standards are certified as the regional brand "Banshu-ori."

Furthermore, regarding cases where dyeing is performed outside the Banshu production region, yarn dyed outside the region must not exceed half of the total, and at least half must be dyed within the Banshu region.

Eligibility

Eligibility to use these tools is restricted to members of the following organizations who have also signed the prescribed manifesto.

  • Banshu Textile Manufacturer Cooperative
  • Hyogo Prefecture Textile Dyeing Industry Cooperative
  • Banshu Textile Industry Cooperative
  • Banshu Textile Finishing Association

Application

Those wishing to use these tools must apply to the Banshu-ori Brand Committee through their affiliated cooperative or association using the prescribed forms.


About the Mark

The Banshu-ori mark is said to have been designed to represent the letter "B", the initial of Banshu-ori, and the three rivers that flow through the production region (the Kako, Sugihara, and Noma rivers).
