Milano Rib Driver's Knit

ミラノリブ ドライバーズニット BLUE 植山テキスタイル

The impression a knit product makes is largely determined by three elements:
the yarn, the knitting structure, and the design.

For this drivers knit, we carefully designed these three elements to create a garment that is 100% wool, yet extremely easy to care for as everyday wear, with the goal of being a knit you can continue to wear for a long time.

Yarn Design

Creating a new texture for wool

Generally, wool yarns are broadly categorized into two types:
worsted and woolen.

Worsted yarn is spun by aligning fibers in parallel, which features a smooth, refined texture.

On the other hand, woolen yarn is spun by entangling fibers randomly, resulting in a yarn that contains more air and has a warm, bulky feel.

Both have their merits, but when wearing a knit product daily, the balance of the following elements becomes important:

  • Comfort against the skin
  • Lightness
  • Resistance to pilling
  • Stability over long-term wear

The yarn we adopted this time is a wool yarn made using a special spinning method that differs from conventional spinning.

Through this spinning method, it achieves:

  • Maintaining the natural texture unique to wool
  • Smoothing the fiber surface
  • Suppressing fuzz due to friction

These features result in a balance of an extremely smooth touch and high resistance to pilling.

Even though it is 100% wool, the texture that feels comfortable even against bare skin is one of the major characteristics of this yarn.

Knitting Structure

The structure known as Milano Rib

The knitting structure we adopted for this yarn is
Milano Rib.

Milano Rib is a type of double-structure knit based on rib knitting; it has a higher density than ordinary knits, and is characterized by its firm, crisp feel and stable knit fabric.

This structure produces characteristics such as:

  • A silhouette that doesn't easily lose its shape
  • Resistance to deformation
  • A beautifully refined surface
  • and so on.

Unlike typical soft knits, the fabric has a presence like a light outerwear piece.

Even for a drivers knit design, the Milano Rib structure is highly compatible, maintaining a beautiful, three-dimensional silhouette even when the zip is closed.

Fabric Variation

Mobility created by structure

The feature of this knit is not just the use of Milano Rib.

By incorporating a design that changes the knitting structure in certain areas, we have enhanced ease of movement when worn.

By adjusting the tension and structure of the knit fabric, especially considering the range of motion around the arms, the design accommodates natural movement while leveraging the elasticity unique to knits.

This design stems from a philosophy that views knits not merely as clothing, but as structures that conform to the movements of the body.

Visual Expression

A simple yet deeply detailed design

The variation in the knitting structure affects not only the functionality but also the visual expression of the knit.

By combining different knitting structures, subtle shadows are created depending on how light hits the surface, giving it a sophisticated three-dimensional feel.

At first glance, it is a very simple knit, but upon closer look, the layering of multiple knitting structures gives the design a sense of quiet complexity.

This can be called a knit where, rather than decorative design, the structure itself creates the expression.

Knit as Everyday Wear

This drivers knit is designed for natural, continuous everyday wear rather than for special occasions.

The smooth texture of wool, the stable knitting structure, and the design that considers the body's movement.

By layering these, we created a knit whose quality you can feel the longer you wear it.

It is a piece completed by the accumulation of materials and structure, not by flashy decoration.
