Shuttlenotes Mill
Honoring Tradition. Weaving the Future. From Banshu to the world, where the spirit of learning from the past lives on

1. A Legacy Woven Over Centuries
Banshu manufacturing boasts a 200-year history
Ueyama Orimono, the company behind Shuttle Notes, was founded in 1948 in Banshu, one of Japan's leading textile production regions, where the textile industry has thrived since the Edo period. This region has a textile culture that spans more than 200 years, and continues to produce high-quality fabrics that are loved by long-established brands both in Japan and abroad.
The mild climate of the Banshu region makes it an ideal environment for the textile industry, which uses natural materials. Our factory has roots in this area and has grown alongside the region's development, with the skills and passion of our artisans still being passed down to this day.
Shuttle Notes is produced by Ueyama Orimono, a weaving mill founded in 1948 in Banshu—a region renowned for its textile production since the Edo period. With a legacy spanning over two centuries, this area has long been home to Japan's finest cotton fabric manufacturing, continuing to supply quality materials to both domestic and international fashion houses.
Blessed with a mild climate and natural surroundings, Banshu remains an ideal place for working with natural fibers. Our factory, rooted in this land, is built on generations of craftsmanship and a deep respect for tradition.

2. Tradition Meets Innovation
A weaving factory where tradition and innovation intersect
We freely use a wide variety of equipment, from vintage shuttle looms to the latest computer-controlled looms.
The soft, warm texture produced by traditional looms and the precise, consistent quality made possible by innovative machines.
These two axes support Shuttle Notes' expressiveness and uniqueness.
Ueyama Orimono seamlessly blends the old and the new—operating both vintage shuttle looms and state-of-the-art computerized looms.
While shuttle looms create soft, airy fabrics with a nostalgic warmth, modern looms ensure precision and consistency.
This dual approach is central to Shuttle Notes, where expressive craftsmanship meets technical excellence.

3. Fabric Born from Dialogue
The shuttle connects the creators and users
Just as a shuttlecock travels back and forth, our craftsmanship is born from a "dialogue" that goes back and forth between the maker and the user.
What materials should be used, what kind of feel is desired, and what style do you want to achieve?
We listen carefully to their requests and weave fabrics that are warm and rich in texture.
Like the shuttle moving back and forth through the loom, our approach to textile creation is built on a dialogue between maker and wearer.
We listen carefully—what materials are desired, how a fabric should feel, what style it should support.
Every piece we weave is a response to those conversations, embodying warmth, texture, and human connection.

4. Diverse Collections, One Philosophy
A consistent philosophy amidst diversity
The collections we release each season are born from planning, research and development that takes market trends into account.
While working with a variety of materials, primarily cotton, including denim, wool, synthetic fibers, and knitwear, we consistently adhere to the philosophy of "bringing out the individuality of the material to the fullest."
From market research and material development to design and production, each Shuttle Notes collection is grounded in thoughtful planning.
While our foundation is cotton, we also work with denim, wool, synthetics, and knits—selecting the ideal fabric for each concept.
At the core of it all is our unwavering philosophy: to draw out the full character of every material we touch.

5. People Power Our Craft
The power of manufacturing woven by people
Since our founding, we have fostered a healthy and sustainable corporate culture by respecting the diversity and individuality of our team.
Through transparent communication, clear goal setting, and continuous feedback, we create an environment where individuals and the company can grow together.
Since our founding, Ueyama Orimono has fostered a culture of respect, teamwork, and diversity.
We believe in clear communication, mutual growth, and the importance of every individual's role in our shared success.
Our people are not just makers—they are the heart of everything we do.
